Free Agency rumors swirl
by Joseph BirminghamThere is talk of the Eagles being interested in Julius Peppers, which in my opinion would be a great move for the Eagles. Having peppers in addition to Trent Cole would allow both men to dominate as defenses pick which linebacker to cover on the pass rush.
There are also rumors that the Birds may be interested in Packers DE Aaron Kampman. Personally, I think it may be too early to jump on a DE 5 months removed from anterior cruciate surgery but, Kampman was much more effective as a 4-3 defensive end than as an outside linebacker in a 3-4, so a move to the Eagles would make sense.
There are 4 other teams who reportedly have Kampman on their wish list, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but his agent did confirm he spoke with Eagles while a league representative denies the Defensive End has any interest in coming to Philadelphia.
Kampman carries a much smaller price tag than Julius Peppers and is a proven leader both on and off the field, which combined with the Eagles current roster and salary cap constraints may make him the better free agent to pursue, but we will have to see.
Reports are that the Bears and the Patriots have also made Peppers an offer, so both men appear to have multiple teams pursuing them, which will make signing either free agent more difficult. Bears coach Lovie Smith was with Peppers in North Carolina shortly after midnight and flew with him to Chicago.
“Of the teams that have called us, there are two other possibilites that could be worth visiting” Peppers’ agent, Carl Carey stated earlier. Here is hoping that at least one of those “other teams” is our Philadelphia Eagles.
