Plenty On The Line For Eagles VS Giants
by BigGreek24
While many fans are waiting for the Eagles/Cowboys playoff showdown part 2 scheduled to take place the final week of the season down in Texas, I’m here to say that you better focus on the here and now which starts Sunday against the Giants in the Meadowlands.
Just one week ago the Giants and their playoff hopes were on life support as they took on the Cowboys. After a big win, they are not only back in the NFC Wild Card race, they are also just a game back of both the Cowboys and Eagles with four to play. Ah, such is life in today’s NFL. Step right up everyone, you too can go 5-0 to start a season and go 1-5 and then win another game and still have a shot to win your division.
Since losing last year 36-31 the Eagles have beaten the G-Men 20-14 (20-7 was the score until the final minute of the game), 23-11 in the playoffs and this season 40-17 at home. The Giants just a calendar year ago were the best team in the NFC and haven’t been the same since Plaxico Burriss was suspended for the remainder of the season effectively ending his Giants career before beginning a new career in jail. The Eagles are riding a three game winning streak but haven’t fared particularly well against teams with above .500 records winning just twice against the Falcons last week (they were 6-5 going into the game) and the Giants who were 5-2 at the time of the first game at the Linc.
This is the Eagles opportunity to put enormous pressure on the Cowboys who always seem to fade in December and not only end the Giants division hopes (the Eagles would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Giants) but would put their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy as well. Since the Eagles don’t play until Sunday night they will know how the Cowboys fared against the surging Chargers before they take the field. Plain and simple – this is a statement game for the Eagles. Its about winning a tough division game on the road, beating a team with a winning record and putting distance between them and the rest of the pack. Losing the game wouldn’t be disastrous – they would still hold a better conference record than the Giants for one of the Wild Card spots and even if the Cowboys slide past the Chargers, their schedule doesn’t get any easier as they then have to play the New Orleans Saints.
I’m sure most fans would agree – winning this weekend is the preferred way to go, but sometimes the Eagles have a funny way of deciding which direction they will take to get to the playoffs.

Got something to say?

I agree bud. This one is also all about Donovan stepping it up and getting a 95 + rating against a solid divisional defense when it matters. I call it Eagles 31 Giants 17 with Donovans arm being the difference
Win this week and the playoffs are a lock. Lose and this will go down to the wire. Time to knock the G-Men out of the race!
Joseph – if not for the blocked extra point you had the score nailed except I don’t think you expected that to be the first half score.
