You Heard It Here First: Eagles Win NFC East

No, the Eagles didn’t clinch anything with this past weekend’s beating of the Falcons.   I was listening to the morning show on 610 WIP in the car as I was waiting for the DMV inspection lanes to open this past Monday, and Ray Didinger came on and the question was posed to him as to who he thought would win the NFC East.   Without hesitation he said the Eagles.  After I got over the initial shock of his prediction I gave it some thought.  Didinger is about as objective as they come and will point out the things about the Eagles he doesn’t like.  He said he still doesn’t understand what Mike Vick is doing on the roster and always questions Andy Reid’s penchant for the pass.   After thinking it over, I have to agree with the Hall Of Fame writer.

Despite all the issues the Eagles have had this season, and they have had their share, the Eagles go into their game this weekend against the Giants at 8-4, their best record after twelve games in five seasons.   They’ve done it despite losing their starting middle linebacker before the season even started.  They lost McNabb for a couple games, and Westbrook is probably done for the season.  Kevin Curtis has been lost for most of the season as well and they’ve endured a few offensive line injuries as well.  They’ve gotten here despite some awful game decisions by Andy Reid.  So bad in fact that I wrote here on this blog that I felt it was time that both he and McNabb leave after the season.    The Eagles haven’t lost since that Sunday night against Dallas and now ride a three game winning streak.   They control their own destiny and under Reid December is the Eagles playground – the time when they play their best football.

The Cowboys might have the best talent in the division, although I think that changes next year after Celek, Jackson and Maclin get another full season under their belts.  For all the things Celek has done, this really is the first year that he was tabbed as the starter.  He certainly plays better than that.  For all the talent the Cowboys have, they just don’t finish well.  They are football’s equivalent of the New York Mets.  Tony Romo seems to peak at Thanksgiving and he is terrible in the season’s final month.   The Cowboys rolled off a few wins but outside of the Raiders game they really looked bad doing it.  They didn’t look that good against a Giants team who’s playoff hopes were on life support and now after that loss the Giants have another breath.   I also believe they are playing for a lame duck coach in Wade Phillips as well.  I think he’s gone unless somehow the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, and I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Despite the 5-0 start I don’t think anyone really thought the Giants were that good, either.  I’ve never been an Eli Manning fan, and I still don’t think he’s a great Quarterback.  I’d take McNabb over Manning right now to run my offense.  The Giants have had some issues defensively this season, and there is no reason why the Eagles should not beat them this weekend.  The Eagles have owned the Giants in their last three meetings.  The Giants haven’t been the same team since letting Plaxico Burriss go during last season.

The Eagles control their own destiny and have momentum on their side right now.   They are also peaking at just the right time which leads me to believe that they will win the NFC East.  I do not think they will run the table, so they will win the division at 11-5 and play the Packers at the Linc to open the NFC Playoffs.   What happens after that we’ll just have to wait and see

Exactly what I said prior to the season starting. Eagles at 10-6 are wildcard, 11-5 wins division. Now after 12 are played, it loks like it is coming down to one game. Season finale against the Cowboys. Eagles win, they take division, they lose, they are wild card. I predicted that result in August, you could look it up !!!!

Got something to say?
