Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

As unfortunate as the Phillies were on Thursday to lose at home despite having the winning run on base you have to love the fact that yesterday’s game got cancelled due the Wintery weather conditions in Denver.  Now the Phillies get to exploit the most glaring weakness the Rockies have, which is their lineups inability to hit lefties.

Yes, I know Cole Hamels didn’t fare well and he is a lefty.  One might think that Cole might’ve been a little distracted with the impending labor of his wife, which happened during the game.  Cole is human afterall and although pitching is his job, I’m sure that he had alot on his mind and just wasn’t as sharp as he could’ve been.

The Rockies were 65-44 against righties this year as compared to 28-27 against lefties.  With my apologies to Pedro Martinez, once the game got cancelled it wouldn’t take a Harvard degree to determine that the way to go tonight was with a lefty in J.A Happ provided that he was healthy.  The line drive he took off of Seth Smith’s bat on Thursday caused a bruise and he has been cleared to pitch.  The last time he faced the Rockies he pitched his best game of the year, a complete game shutout.  Make no mistake about it, the Phillies will need a sharp outing again tonight from Happ if they want to get control of this series back from the Rockies.  Thanks to the split in Philly, the series is now basically a best-of-three with the Rockies holding home field advantage.

The Phillies are setup nicely, with Happ going tonight, Cliff Lee tomorrow and then Hamels on Tuesday.   Thanks to the delightful Colorado weather that also means that both Lee and Hamels get to pitch on regular rest.    You have to like the Phillies chances to move on to the NLCS against the Dodgers and to be honest, if the Rockies win the series they have definately earned the trip because they would not only have beaten the defending World Champs, they did it facing all left-handed starters.

We’ll know in a few hours where this series stands.  The Eagles won big today, let’s hope for the same for the Phillies.

I am loving it ! I have been saying all along the rookie earned a chance to show his stuff in the post season. He had an incredible year and is the only Phillie pitcher who kept his ERA under 3. I like Pedro, but he is both right handed, and less on top of his game then Happ at this particular point in their careers and I would like nothing more than to see Happ pitch another complete game. (This would mean we could avoid that bullpen for another day !!) Now let us hope we can all stay up til 1 am EST to see the result !

Got something to say?
