Thanks To TBS – Ugly Game Ends After Midnight

One thing I’ve learned during the age of Television sports.  Money talks and, well, you can fill in the rest.  When a network pays millions of dollars for the rights to televise sporting events such as the Olympics, Super Bowl and in this case the National and American League Division Series the networks get to determine who plays at what time.  How else could you possibly explain the moronic decision to have the Rockies and Phillies play in Colorado at 10:00pm eastern time when the temperature was 31 degrees at game time?

This game should’ve been played during the daytime.   Why not have the Rockies and Phillies start at 2pm eastern time, then play the Angels/Red Sox at 6pm with the Yankees/Twins series starting at 9pm? The Phillies afterall are the defending World Champions.  Granted, they are not the Yankees and their overblown payroll and 103 regular season victories and they deserved better and their fans deserved better than to have to stay up until 2:15 am to watch the conclusion of an exciting yet rather ugly win.  Seriously, how many fans do you honestly think stayed up to see the conclusion of the Phillies game? I’m betting not very many.

Baseball simply wasn’t meant to be played under the conditions we saw last night, with big heaters in each dugout and outfielders wearing ski caps under their baseball caps.  Every time you saw a player take a breath you saw the fog come out of their mouth like football players.  And we have TBS to thank for it because they paid mega millions (or perhaps billions) for the television rights.

The way this game played out, its a shame more people weren’t awake to see it.
