Flyers gain a much needed win

With the Phillies recent exploits, the Flyers may be being overlooked.  They started the season hot, tailed off a little, and tonight, regained their winning ways with an overtime W against the Bruins 4-3.

Emery had 23 saves, as he regained his early season form after sustaining three consecutive losses spread out over a week. Chris Pronger started the scoring with a goal at 12:03 of the first period, only to see the Bruins tie it up on the power play five minutes later.

The Flyers literally peppered the goal with shots with 39 shots on goal to Bostons 26.  They struggled again on the power play going 0-2 with the man advantage.  Darrell Powe and Arron Asham both scored in the second to keep pace with the Bruins tandem of Matt Henwick and Steve Begin who both scored as well.

The defense stiffened up and there was no more scoring through the third period and overtime periods as regulation ended with  the score tied 3-3.   The shootout attempt by Claude Giroux from 9 feet proved to be the winning score that gave the Flyers their first victory in over a week.

Perhaps with the pause in the Phillies World Series run, the Flyers will get some attention when they face Florida this Saturday to try to maintain this momentum.  They face off on Comcast at 7pm.  It is too early to say how this team will perform.  They are in playing in a tough conference so hopefully they will continue to improve as the season progresses.
