Lee was a consolation prize last year - the Phillies wanted Halladay but since the Jays would't give the Phils time to work out an extension last year Amaro wasn't going to give them the package they wanted. As for the picks, you don't know what you're getting and on top of that the Phillies would then had to bid against 29 other clubs for Lee who already thinks he's going to get Sabathia money.

I dont know why Amaro would NOT want Lee and Holiday on the roster at the same time, my guess is there is more to the Lee situation then what he is reporting, and it is possible, with him going 4-0 in the postseason and getting both the Phillies WS wins that he elevated himself to being more important than he was. I love Cliff Lee, but i trust Phillies team management for letting him go, look at what they have done over the past three years !
